"I have noticed over the years that when someone comes to the office with their children and they are in there for a long period of time, whether it is- applicants come in to fill out an application, someone comes in for a move-in or a resident comes in for a re-cert- that they are distracted and get flustered. So I set up a little table at my family property where their children could color. I Google "coloring pages" and print out pages for FREE! I have even asked the children what they like and get a specific coloring page. Ex: Google- 'Dora Coloring pages' http://www.nickjr.com/printables/dora-the-explorer/all-themes/all-ages/index.jhtml
Gary, the manager in Tonopah has crated a small “Belmont Coloring Book" with pictures to color and has his properties contact information on it that he gives out to applicants when they come in. It’s a great way to make our applicants feel welcome and it also gets our properties name and information in a handy place to remind them of us!
Last week Gwen of Riverwood decided to make her property (of 208 family units) a friendlier environment. Because they have the space she got a little table, coloring books and a basket of toys for the office. As you can imagine with 208 family units, they get quite a few little household members that get bored while their parents are doing their re-cert paperwork. Already residents and applicants alike love the area and feel more comfortable in the office." ~ Michelle West (see: "Remember the Little Residents" slide show)
